A Silk & Love Story by My Grandfather, Shinki, and My Grandmother.
1935, Osaka. The story of my grandfather, Shinki, began during a turbulent era. Seeking refuge from the war, he moved to the quiet nature of Awaji Island. But destiny had other plans. The suppliers for the family business he helped on the island were located far away in Semba, Osaka. Perhaps this connection was not merely a coincidence.
Guided by these invisible threads of fate, my grandfather made a decision to return to Semba, the city of merchants.
A Dream with Brothers, A Path as a Couple. Sixty years ago, together with his brothers, my grandfather established a kimono shop in Semba—the sanctuary of Japanese textiles. It was there that he had a fateful encounter with the woman who would become my grandmother, Masako.
My grandfather possessed a strict, discerning eye for "authentic silk," while my grandmother protected the shop with her warm smile. Until my grandfather passed away in 2023, their lives were always intertwined with beautiful kimonos.
Passing the Baton. MEGURU’s scrunchies are born from the "unused vintage kimonos" that my grandparents cherished and preserved for decades.
This is a miraculous silk, woven by the history of Osaka and Awaji Island, and by their love—a quality that can never be reproduced again. As their granddaughter, I, Natsumi Yamamoto, am honored to deliver their story to you.
